Week 4: Tuesday, August 15, 2017
I had the playlist all ready to go yesterday and forgot to post it. Good for me. So here it is a day late. It’s rather politically charged because I’ve been getting pretty heated lately. This past weekend we witnessed absolute chaos as white supremacists got off their rockers and decided to terrorize our country with ignorance and hate. Fuck a nazi, ya feel? This playlist we’ve got sociopolitical tracks from Joey Bada$$, Chance the Rapper (who showed incredible generosity and care at the Bud Billiken parade this weekend), St. Vincent, Jamila Woods and M.I.A. I also have a new Mount Kimbie track ft. King Krule and a Son Little song that I’m in LOVE with. Additionally, Knox Fortune celebrated his birthday last week so listen to his song “Help Myself” in this playlist. Finally, Goblin announced they were going on tour so we’re listening to “Black Forest.” Here is the link to the flippin’ playlist because WordPress is apparently never going to get it together.
Week 3: Wednesday, August 9, 2017
This week’s playlist is late, so sorry! For Week Three we have “Negative Nancy” by Adore Delano, which dropped alongside a music video last Monday. I’ve also tossed “HUMBLE.” in to coordinate with my VMA blog post. Twin Peaks put out two new tracks from their Sweet ’17 Singles series, and “Sun and the Trees” is totally lovely. In the past week or so we celebrated the birthdays of two music legends who are no longer with us. To honor MCA of the Beastie Boys we have “Make Some Noise” and “Paul Revere.” And, to celebrate Whitney Houston, enjoy listening to “So Emotional” and “I Have Nothing.” Also within this past week was Lollapalooza, so I thought we’d listen to some Chance The Rapper, who headlined the festival. I also wanted to share the Whitney track “Red Moon” and a Joey Purp song, because Joey Purp freestyled over “Red Moon” at Lolla and the videos I watched made me CRY. We’ve also got two tracks from Vic Mensa’s new album, he played at Lolla too. Lot’s of Chicago love in this week’s playlist. Next we celebrate the sixth anniversay of “Watch the Throne” with “Ni**as in Paris.” “Underground Kingz” also celebrated an anniversary. UGK’s iconic album came out ten year’s ago this past week. Let’s listen to “Int’l Players Anthem” because I love that song and for some reason “Underground Kingz” is only available in the clean version on Spotify. Finally, we lost Glen Campbell this week. To honor his life, we have “Southern Nights.” Sorry for the hasty and tardy playlist, I’ll try and get it together sometime! Click here to listen because the g’damn mother fuckin’ embedding doesn’t work…
Week 2: Monday, July 31, 2017
We made it to week two of The Sami Fisher Blog Weekly Tunes Playlist! This week Kendrick Lamar and Rihanna dropped their music video for Kendrick’s “LOYALTY.” so that jam is on the playlist. Smino also put out his visuals for “Netflix & Dusse,” which you can listen to for week two too. Also, SZA dropped her “Supermodel” music video today, so that song obviously had to be on the playlist. Finally, Carli XCX’s “Boys” music video had me feeling it, so I put that tune in the playlist. This past week we also celebrated Mick Jagger’s 74th birthday. He put out two new songs, but I decided to put some Rolling Stones classics in the playlist instead. You can also listen to brand new tracks off of the new albums of Aminé, Lana Del Rey, Passion Pit and The Isley Brothers and Santana on this week’s playlist. There’s additionally some brand new singles from Zebra Katz, D.R.A.M. ft. Cardi B, Gin Wigmore, and Action Bronson. Finally, we celebrate the one year anniversary of Noname’s breathtaking album “Telefone” with one of my favorite songs off of the album. Here’s a link to the playlist because WordPress is on some whack embedding shit: The Sami Fisher Blog Weekly Tunes Playlist: Week 2.
Week 1: Monday, July 24, 2017
I decided to try something a little different, weekly playlists! My first edition of “The Sami Fisher Blog Weekly Tunes Playlist” features two of my favorite songs from Tyler, The Creator’s latest (and greatest) album “Flower Boy.” We’ve also got my new favorite song, “Lil Thing” by Knox Fortune. Other brand new jams include tracks by Aminé, Azealia Banks, Gin Wigmore, Joey Bada$$, and a live reworking from Cage the Elephant. Plus, my playlist honors the late Chester Bennington and George Romero. We also celebrate SZA’s appearance on “The Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon,” Danny Brown’s new music video, the 30th anniversary of “Appetite for Destruction,” and Slash’s 51st birthday. Enjoy below. And since the goddamn Spotify embedding never seems to work, here’s a link as well.
